Ugandan Nurse Leadership Development
In 2019 Heb Ffin received a grant from the Wales and Africa Grant Scheme from the Welsh Government to explore the leadership development needs of nurses and midwives in Uganda
Scope of the work
|
A series of workshops were held in four areas of Uganda at which nurses and midwives were canvassed for their opinions on nursing and midwifery leadership needs. A report was written detailing recommendations for the further development of nursing and midwifery leaders. Unfortunately, due to travel restrictions associated with the Covid pandemic it was not possible for the recommendations to be presented in person. However, virtual meetings were held to update professional leaders in Uganda and a paper was presented by a senior Ugandan nurse at a professional conference in Uganda. A further paper has been submitted for publication in a UK peer-review professional journal.

Future prospects
|
Further funding is being sought for the project team to return to Uganda to present the findings and recommendations and to assist Ugandan nursing and midwifery professional leaders to develop and implement a leadership development programme based on the recommendations of the previous report.
